- Gender issues and diversity in design
- Historic preservation of structures, interiors, and ornamentation
- Design leadership
Associate Professor Nelson-Johnson's research interests include historic design and preservation, two-dimensional historic ornamentation, gender issues in design and design leadership. Professor Nelson-Johnson is an artist and has exhibited her art quilts in national exhibitions throughout the United States.
Teaching Emphasis
Professor Nelson-Johnson has taught courses focusing on basic design, concept development, graphic presentation techniques, residential design and small-scale commercial design a the undergraduate level. At the graduate level, she has taught research methods and supervised several graduate student research projects and theses.
